What you need to know

Banging, whistling, gurgling or vibration can have different causes. If there is a gas smell, soot, a carbon-monoxide alarm, or anyone feels unwell, use emergency guidance immediately.

Do not attempt an internal boiler repair. Use the emergency route if there is a gas smell, carbon-monoxide concern or immediate risk.

Safe checks before you call

Note when the noise occurs: on hot water, heating, startup or shutdown.
Check the display for a fault code without removing any covers.
Do not try to access internal fans, pumps, combustion or flue components.
